Gardiner chaos averted

A massive protest by Toronto’s Tamil community that shut down the Gardiner Expressway for more than six hours last night ended shortly after midnight, creating instant relief for tens of thousands of commuters planning their morning drive into work. The end came shortly after a representative in Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff’s office promised to bring up the demonstrators’ cause – sanctions against the Sri Lankan government until it enters into a ceasefire with Tamil rebels in the country’s north – in Parliament.
