Second Tamil hunger-striker taken to hospital
A hunger-striking Tamil woman was taken to an Ottawa hospital Thursday, leaving just three of the original six protesters who began fasting last week to pressure the Harper government into recalling the Canadian high commissioner in Sri Lanka. Mahalingam Sivaneshwari, 59, was taken to the Civic Hospital on the seventh day of her hunger strike, complaining of breathing difficulties. The remaining two men and one woman will begin the eighth day of their protest this evening, vowing to continue their fast until Canada shows a sign of diplomatic protest by temporarily bringing back its envoy from Colombo.
